JAKARTA: The government has committed to direct local societies not to work on illegal mining sites, but on small-scale mining sites based on good mining practice.
Director General of Mineral and Coal at Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM) Thamrin Sihite revealed societies living in mine-producing regions should be developed continuously to implement good mining practice leading to less illegal mining sites.
“Illegal mining sites don’t only be eradicated through law enforcement, but also should educate local societies by local governments,” he said yesterday.
In fact, Law No.4/2009 on Mineral and Coal has regulated on small-scale mining sites. (t01)
